Michelle Scipio-Hosang is Vice President, Port and Estate Management at National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited, where she oversees a portfolio spanning six hazardous petrochemical terminals, the Port of Galeota, a thirteen-vessel marine fleet, and the Union Industrial Estate. She leads a division of approximately 45 personnel operating continuously across marine, port, and estate management functions.
A trailblazer in her field, Michelle was the first woman in Trinidad and Tobago to qualify as a marine engineer having obtained a UK Class 2 Certificate of Competency in 1997. After working at sea for 9 years, transitioned to shore-based management and obtained her MBA in Maritime and Logistics Management. Under her leadership, National Energy grew from a local harbour towage provider to the country’s dominant tug operator, with operations extending regionally into Grenada and Suriname and internationally into Angola.
Other achievements under Michelle’s purview include the Port of Galeota EcoPorts certification, and National Energy’s introduction of three low-exhaust tugs into its fleet — the only such vessels operating in Trinidad and Tobago. These investments position the National Energy at the forefront of maritime decarbonisation in the region.
