
Mr. John-Paul Pantin was elected as the Pilot Master (Chairman) of the Trinidad and Tobago Pilots Association. In this role, he oversees and coordinates nationwide pilotage operations, ensures regulatory compliance, assesses navigational risks, and conducts pilot training, fostering effective communication between the team and stakeholders.
Mr. Pantin is a maritime professional and academic from Trinidad and Tobago with over a decade of experience in senior roles. He was the first successful candidate to complete his Diploma in Maritime Operations (inaugural class) from the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT 2008). He furthered his professional career by pursuing his Chief mates and Masters from the Marine and Coast Guard agency in the UK and attended Warsash maritime college where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Nautical science. Throughout his career, he has served in various ranks on multiple types of gas carriers for prominent shipping companies, including BP Shipping (LNG), Stolt Tankers, and Exmar Shipping.
Beyond his practical maritime experience, in 2019 he has continued his professional development by earning a Master of Science in Shipping Operations from the Warsash Maritime Academy at the University of Solent in the UK.
He has also held significant leadership positions, such as being elected a Director at Bridge Control Services Limited a marine transport company in 2018, where he served as Corporate Secretary until 2020 when he became Chairman. In this capacity, he guided the company’s organizational transformation during COVID-19 pandemic and has led the Board of Directors, focused on strategic matters, and upheld high governance standards.
Additionally, Mr. Pantin contributes to education and the maritime industry as a part-time lecturer at the university, a Marine Assurance Consultant for SBM Tanker Operations, a Regional Council representative of the Nautical Institute, and a member of the Latin American Pilots Association. He also was recently elected as President of the Nautical Institute local branch (2025) and is an advocate for mentorship and securing the futures of young maritime professionals.
His achievements reflect a commitment to excellence in both the maritime sector and his broader professional community.
